Training in Equine Facilitated Wellness

We have been offering training in the equine facilitated therapies since 2006. Sharing the knowledge we have accumulated is a way to expand the possibilities this wonderful work offers, and gives us many opportunities to deepen our own abilities. People have traveled from all across Canada, the USA and beyond to attend training at Generation Farms.
HorseWisdom for Humans; our Generation Farms approach, has developed over ten years and is influenced by the core principles of trauma therapy, sensory motor approaches to healing, mindfulness practice, relational horsemanship and the Epona Approach. It is a safe yet powerful method that can combine with other approaches, or can become a specialty on its own. This approach can be learned in our Reflection of the Horse training detailed below.
Horses live in the moment without practice. Their very biology and nervous systems cause them to keep their focus in the now, and to be able to instantly read our body language and inner state. The magnificent size and power of horses is awesome, and yet they are most cooperative when we approach them with respect, clarity and authenticity.
Reflection of the Horse; Training in Equine Facilitated Wellness
This model teaches a foundation that can inform all aspects of Equine Facilitated work, and is safe and healing for both species. Suited for practitioners who truly want to work with their horses as partners.
This small group two-week training opportunity is open to people with the following experience:
- Mental Health professionals (e.g. counsellors, psychologists) and to those in related fields of human development such as Social Work, Child & Youth Care, addictions and Life Coaching
- Horse Professionals and those with experience with horses and good basic horse handling skills on the ground
- Participation in an Epona Approach workshop offered by any qualified Epona Approved Instructor and/or participation in an Explorations in EFMH workshop.
Partnering with horses is effective and yet gentle in working with many people including those with anxiety, depression, brain injury, developmental delay, trauma, issues related to self esteem, relationship challenges, fear of horses, those wanting to thrive….
Learning will include:
- the principles of self regulation and its application to working with horses and people

- present moment body centred focus
- safety; emotional and physical
- deepening understanding of the Epona concepts as developed by Linda Kohanov*
- proximity boundaries and energetic boundaries

- "natural horsemanship" and its application
- mounted exercises (optional)
- natural EMDR (optional)
- healing trauma

* This program is offered with the blessings of Epona; it is not intended to replace their apprenticeship or other programs.

Comments from past participants:
"The whole program was a highlight - I have learned so much"
"My experience has been wonderful. I have had many life changing experiences. It has changed my life connecting with your farm. I have met wonderful women, wonderful teachers, wonderful animals and wonderful mentors."
"A big element is Deb's knowledge of the whole field of Equine Guided Work. That she attends conferences, affiliates with colleagues in other places etc, brings a vast perspective."
"I feel better prepared to offer sacred horse experiences. I feel I new have some tools to handle the inevitable emotional release that happens around horses."
”Your influence on me as a person and my work with the horses was greater than you could ever imagine. Allowing them to choose whether they want to work and with which client has led me to a place where we are surely partners and I don’t have to put myself under so much scrutiny, cause one glance at them will confirm my thought or contradict it. So thanx to you, I’ve gained so much from my work – its even more pleasurable than I thought.”
