Deborah and Emily hold common beliefs about what horses offer to people, and the quality of life horses deserve to enjoy. This has been the impetus behind creating Generation Farms.  Three generations of their family have come together to generate this dream. Deborah is also the founder and principle of the Counselling practice of Marshall and Associates in Nanaimo.  Started in 1988, it continues to be a thriving practice with five skilled counsellors.  Deborah is now integrating these two businesses to provide rich and innovative possibilities for people to heal and thrive in their lives. Generation Farms Facility Located close to the City of Nanaimo, Generation Farms lies in a small rural valley of Agricultural Land Reserve.  There are two barns on the property, an all-weather outdoor sand ring, a covered round pen, a permanent outdoor round pen and a large field for riding.  People also enjoy the relaxed workshop space known as the Tucson Room, small outdoor sitting areas, and a beautiful cedar gazebo built by master carpenter Rick Lennert.. The Herd Horses that are all individual with varied breeding, training, age and histories make up the Generation Farms herd.  We relate with our horses as partners and respect their wisdom, intelligence and instinct.  The emotional and physical health of the horses is essential to our operation.  We believe we are entrusted to give our horses a long-term stable home.  Our retired riding horses are welcome to continue in the HorseWisdom team where the activities are generally unmounted.  The horses at Generation Farms have the luxury of generous shelter and good care, as well as the freedom to live outdoors.  We find this supports the physical and emotional health of our horses. Caring for the psychological state of the horses is very important to us.  We are finding that HorseWisdom benefits the horse as well as the human, but their capacity differs from horse to horse.  Some thrive on every contact they have with people.  Others are more specific about their offerings.  Just like us, some horses need to learn their own limits and we watch them carefully as they come to understand they have choice.  Not every horse wants to be involved.  It takes time and attentiveness to support the development of a therapy horse.
